Chick flick: Cinema sign for movie in Limerick can’t be moved over nesting birds!

‘We will never be free of the cast of Devil Wears Prada 2 judging us!’

THE presence of nesting birds has meant cinema bosses in Limerick have not been able to take down a poster for hit movie The Devil Wears Prada 2 from over its ticket booth.

The fashion flick hit Irish cinemas on May 1 and, thanks to its success, enjoyed an extended run in a number of cinemas until the middle of July.

However, it’s no longer on the big screen. But at Omniplex Cinema at The Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle there is a lasting legacy to the comedy-drama – at least for now.

And it’s not for the birds either – it’s actually because of them!

There is still a poster advertising the film at the premises complete with images of the main cast members.

A much smaller sign beside the poster, includes a piece of clipart showing birds in a nest, with the following notice: “We cannot remove this display due to birds nesting.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently not featuring in cinema”.

Eagle-eyed cinema-goer Anthony O’Brien, Rathbane, who noticed the nest sign, joked in a post on the online social media Reddit: “We will never be free of the cast of the Devil Wears Prada 2 judging us!”.

"The bird probably nested under the roof of the Omniplex entrance during the heatwave.

"Nice they haven't disturbed them, nobody would have noticed if they had probably," he added.

There’s actually a very good legal reason why the nest cannot simply be disturbed.

Under section 22 of the Wildlife Act, 1976, it is an offence to wilfully disturb a wild bird on or near a nest containing eggs or unflown young.

It is also an offence to wilfully destroy, injure or mutilate the nest or eggs.

The protection applies throughout the year where eggs or unflown young are involved – it is not simply a March-to-August rule.

One Reddit user joked: “I hope the staff call the mammy bird Miranda!”

That is a reference to Meryl Streep's character, the formidable magazine editor Miranda Priestly.

The fictional editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, she is the terrifyingly formidable boss at the heart of both the original Devil Wears Prada film and this year’s sequel.

Another Reddit user added: “They should keep running the film for the duration of the nesting, just for the bit!”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one of the most successful movies of 2026 so far. It’s the sequel to the 2006 film.

Like many successful movies, it began its life as a 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, who drew on her own experience working as an assistant to fashion magazine Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour.

The sequel came after Weisberger wrote a direct follow-up, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, in 2013, and the spin-off novel When Life Gives You Lululemons in 2018.

Omniplex had not returned a request for comment from the Limerick Leader at the time of going to press.
