LIMERICK Sport Huskies stalwart Orlaith Woods says her side have recovered well from a slow start to this season's Domino's Women's Division One league campaign.

The Huskies are well in the mix at the summit of the Division One table and Woods says keeping a level head after a tricky start was key to ignite the side's current run of form.

"We had a slow start to the season and we had to stay patient early on. We knew we had the talent but the results weren't coming in those first few games. It's easy to doubt yourself when you go 0-2 but we just stayed level headed and trusted the process.

"We knew we had new players coming in, a new coaching staff and a new system but once we've settled in, everything has clicked since the first two games.

"Those losses helped us in many ways as well, it helped sharpen our focus and brought us together that bit more.

"As I said, we were tested early on with this those two losses but we've responded ever since which has been good."

There is little to separate the sides at the summit of the league table and Woods says that this is because of the sheer quality that the league possesses.

"Anyone can beat anyone on their day in this league, it's that close, especially at the start of the season when everyone is still figuring each other out, we just have to remind ourselves to stay grounded and take each week as it comes.

As well as a very strong start to this season's league campaign, the Sport Huskies also have a a Domino's Division One Cup semi-final to look forward to next month.

Woods says that this season's cup run has given the club a massive boost and states that cup competitions are a 'different beast.'

"The cup run has been huge for the whole club, players, coaches and fans alike. The club has been building back towards this and it's great to see all that hard work paying off. It's very special and it shows the younger players in the programme what's possible.

"We have a real committed group who will committed and train hard over the Christmas period, if we can do that and work, it'll give us a great chance heading into the semi-finals but we'll be taking nothing for granted."

"The cup is a different beast. These days don't come around often so you have to cherish them while you can. It'll be about putting the head down and not changing too much from what's worked for us so far.

"Not just relying on one player but everyone contributing as a collective and from the bench and showing resilience on the day. It's up to us on the court to put the game plan into practise and we're really, really looking forward to it."

Woods paid tribute to Head Coach Patrick O'Regan and his coaching staff for the club's strong start to the season.

"Patrick has been doing amazing stuff with us and it's just fantastic considering he's so new to the league. This is his first year with us and his game plans are very clear and concise, I know Patrick and the coaching staff will prepare us really well.

"We've created such a good culture and he fills us with so much confidence and if we stick to his plan for the season, I expect us to compete."
