"WE have a small but tightly knit squad this season and everyone is hungry to compete and to show the rest of the teams we mean business this year."
This was Orlaith Woods response to getting the 24/25 season started with Limerick Sport Huskies National League basketball team as co-captain for the second year in-a-row.
Huskies will have to hit the ground running straight away this season with a derby game against fellow Limerick side Limerick Celtics this Saturday at 5pm in St Munchin's College as the start of the National League season gets underway.
Speaking about having a derby game as the opening fixture of the year Orlaith went on to say: "There is always an extra level of intensity when we play a local rival, so we are hoping to thrive on that energy. Limerick Celtics are one of the top teams in our league now and if you compare our results from last season to theirs we are definitely going into Saturday's games as the underdogs, but we can't wait to play the game and get the season underway."
Despite how last season may have finished for Huskies they have welcomed back American pro Scout Frame, who finished last year leading the MissQuote.ie Women's Division One as the number one point scorer in the league.
Scout isn't the only player returning to Huskies as Sophie Moore, Sarah Brazil and Katie Black all return to the fold. The team have also welcomed some new players in the form of American Delia Moore and Spanish Sara Castro.
Woods went on to say: "We have laid down a solid foundation for ourselves during the pre-season. We have a great mix of experienced players and some fresh talent coming in as well. We have really found our rhythm as a team so it's really exciting."
