Jodie Waite will be making her Paralympic Debut this week in Paris
LIMERICK native Jodie Waite will make her Paralympic Debut this month after being selected on the Team GB Wheelchair Basketball team.
Currently studying a degree in Sport, Physical Education and Development at the University of East London, Jodie plays her club basketball with East London Phoenix after starting out playing with Limerick Celtics here in Ireland.
An incredibly talented player, she has been named Irish Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Player of the Year three consecutive times (2020/21, 2021/22, and 2022/23). Jodie was also previously the captain of the Limerick Celtics wheelchair basketball team for a number of years with the team having huge success.
Jodie is one of two players who will be making their Paralympic debuts in Paris with Team GB sending a squad of 11 athletes in their bid to claim their first ever women's wheelchair basketball medal. Wheelchair basketball will take place on all 11 days of competition in the Bercy Arena.
Great Britain are grouped alongside China, Canada and Spain in group one with the first set of games getting underway on Thursday, August 29 when Team GB take on Spain in the opening round.
After the group stages are completedm the quarter-finals take place on Tuesday, September 3 followed by semi-finals and the medal finals on Sunday, September 8, all depending on results in the group stages and knock-out games.
