Dooneen AC honoured a number of their juvenile athletes who were selected for Ireland over the past year
THE travelling Limerick contingent were met by dry conditions for the last of the provincial cross country finals in Waterford last Sunday - the Munster Masters and Juvenile Cross Country Relays at Lakesland, Tramore, Co Waterford.
In the Boys U12 superb running from Conall Redmond, Ruairi McDonnell, George O’Brien and Jake O’Connor saw Limerick AC take third place in 7:02, with each athlete running 500m.
West Limerick U14 Girls put in a great performance for fifth place in a fine time of 7:15 and their side featured Katelyn Barrett, Kate Horgan, Aoife Cremin, and Nessa Halpin.
In the Masters Susan Murnane was second O50 Woman and 13th overall in a time of 15:56 on the 4K course.
In the Men’s Karl Lenihan was third O45 and sixth overall in 24;33.
Dooneen’s Brian Jenkins was just behind him, seventh overall and third O40 in a 24:43.
Damien Tracey of Limerick AC was 35th overall, while clubmate Mark Whelan was fifth O55 in 30:41.
Tommy Madden of Limerick Country Club took gold in the M70 category.
West Waterford Half Marathon
Dooneen’s Marcella McGrath has had a great year and she was fourth F50 in a time of 1:34:32 with Kilmallock’s Liz Leonard crossing the line in 1:57:34.
Presentation
Dooneen AC honoured a number of its outstanding juvenile athletes who have been selected for Ireland over the past year.
At one of the final training sessions of 2025 at UL a presentation was made to Ellen Goggin, Emer Purtill, Destiny Lawal, Ella Grace Osborne and Megan O’Shea.
Fixtures
The National Novice and Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships take place next weekend in Abbotstown with several Limerick athletes taking part.
This Sunday also sees the Border Half Marathon take place in Corbally close to the Limerick-Clare Border and close to a thousand athletes are expected to take part.
The Athletics Limerick St Stephens Day 10K takes place at 12pm from Caherdavin Community Centre. Enter through Eventmaster or on the day.
The Dooneen AC hosted Michal Rejmer 10 Mile Road Race 2026 has been announced for March 29 from Limerick Racecourse. Entries are open now through Eventmaster. All Finishers will receive a bespoke medal while the first 250 entries will also receive a T-shirt.
Limerick Parkrun at the University of Limerick have announced additional dates on Christmas Day, December 25 and New Years Day, 9:30am from the University of Limerick Boat Club.
The Tom Walsh Memorial 10K run and 5 Mile walk takes place on Sunday, January 11 in Caherconlish at 12pm. Entries are still available through Eventmaster
