Limerick athletes excel at wide range of events

Community Games

WELL done to all athletes from the various Limerick ‘regions’ who competed at the National Community Games finals in Carlow.

Special mention to the Kilmallock/Bulgaden/Effin team of Noah and Calum Meyer, Charlie McCarthy and Ronan Collins won Silver in the 4x100m Relay at the National Finals in Carlow.

Around the Country

West Limerick’s Ide Nic Dhomhnaill continued her excellent form, winning the Celbridge 5k in a time of 16:19.

The West Limerick duo of Padraig O Donnell and Kieran ran the Cork BHAA Stryker 4-mile in times of 22:18 and 25:25 respectively, well done to both.

W.L. clubmate Eamon Caulfield ran the Frank Duffy 10 Mile in the Phoenix Park in a time of 1:21:18.

Congratulations to Kilmallock AC’s Liz Leonard who rose early to make her way to Longford where she completed her 61st Marathon.

Abroad

John Kinsella broke his own course in the Krasnystaw Half Marathon but his time of 1:11:18 in 30 degrees heat was only good enough for second place on this occasion. John is preparation for the forthcoming Berlin Marathon, we wish him ‘viel gluck’ (good luck).

Parkrun

Gareth Cox, of Dooneen, and Mary I completed his 200th Parkrun and in an excellent time of 25:01 at UL.

Fit4Life and Training

The West Limerick AC Couch 25K 2024 commences on Thursday September 26th with club coaches. The programme is 8 weeks long and finishes with a 5K om 17th November at the Regional Athletics Hub.

West Limerick Senior Training commences on Tuesday 3rd September at 7:30pm. training at Limerick Regional Athletics Hub,
Thursdays at 7.45pm

Coach Education

An Athletics Leader 1-day course takes place in UL on Saturday, September 7 from 10am-5pm, It’s a foundation level course suitable for parents or athletes aged 16+ who would like to assist with younger athletes groups such as 5-7-year-olds Little
Athletics or U19-U11 Juveniles and beginners. Register through Eventmaster

Fixtures

The Limerick Novice Cross Country is set for Sunday, September 23, in Bilboa, followed by the Senior event on September 30 in Newcastle West. In 1969 the Ladies Senior XC Champion Rose Shanahan of St Patrick's Ballyneety was just 13 years old.

Rosemary is the most successful Senior athlete with 9 County Senior Cross-Country titles.

The Charleville Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, September 15 is now sold out.
