LWSSL Open Cup Final:
Herbertstown 1–5 Aisling Annacotty
AISLING Annacotty capped off a magnificent season with a comprehensive 5–1 victory over Herbertstown in the LWSSL Open Cup Final, completing a remarkable clean sweep of trophies at Coonagh AFC on Saturday last.
Having already secured the League title, Division 1 Cup, and the Munster Shield, Aisling added the Open Cup to their 2025 haul.
Aisling wasted no time asserting their dominance, with E. Robertson striking after just 4 minutes to open the scoring. Laura Lyons doubled their lead in the 23rd minute, giving her side a strong 2–0 advantage at the break.
Herbertstown came back fighting and were rewarded when Melissa Thompson pulled one back in the 46th minute, igniting hopes of a comeback. However, Aisling quickly regained control.
Orlaith Purcell restored the two-goal cushion in the 59th minute, before Lyons grabbed her second just two minutes later. Megan Foley added the icing on the cake deep into stoppage time (93rd minute) to seal a dominant display.
Despite the scoreline, Herbertstown’s Katie O’Meara was a standout performer and was deservedly named Player of the Match by the match officials Chloe Kenna, Ray Ryan, and Darragh Meaney.
Referee Chloe Kenna, who also plays with Moyross AFC in the LWSSL, took charge of her first cup final, a proud moment for the league.
The LWSSL extended their thanks to Coonagh FC for providing their excellent facilities, to league sponsors Ei Electronics, to all volunteers, helpers, and match officials, and to the loyal supporters who turned out over three weekends of thrilling cup final action.
