UNIVERSITY Concert Hall is set to welcome the Irish Baroque Orchestra (IBO) for their debut performance in Limerick on Sunday, October 5 at 3pm, presented in partnership with the Friends of UCH.

Ireland’s leading period instrument ensemble, the IBO is internationally acclaimed for its dynamic, authentic performances.

Under the baton of Artistic Director Peter Whelan, a recent Olivier Award winner, the orchestra will perform ‘Classical Masterworks’, a vibrant programme exploring the early Classical era.

The concert opens with Van Maldere’s “Dublin” Symphonies, among the earliest known symphonies written and performed in Ireland.

These works burst with energy and innovation, giving a glimpse into the musical landscape of 18th-century Dublin.

The programme continues with Mozart’s Horn Concerto K447, featuring renowned historical horn specialist Anneke Scott, IBO’s Principal Horn. Known for her brilliant performances, Scott brings exceptional artistry to this work.

The concert concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, an enduring favourite of the classical repertoire.

Sinéad Hope, Director of UCH, said, “We are delighted to welcome the Irish Baroque Orchestra to University Concert Hall for the very first time this autumn.

“This special concert brings to life Van Maldere’s vibrant ‘Dublin’ symphonies, the first ever written and performed in Ireland,” Sinéad added.
