Limerick Halloween production offers horror with 'comedy twist'

THIS Halloween break, sketch comedy show Stage Frights will be returning for its fourth year running.

The comedy show, which is written, produced, and performed by and all-local cast and crew, first began in 2021.

Themed around Halloween, the show mixes popular horror tropes from TV and film and gives them “a comedy twist”. 

The group takes current topics of discussion in Limerick and Ireland to create a satirical sketch night, with previous year’s themes including the “frighteningly good” Limerick hurling team, or the “supernaturally evil” accommodation crisis ongoing nationwide.

Oola native Pádraig Lohan explained that himself and a group of friends, who he had done a lot of college society sketch comedies with during their days at Mary Immaculate College, formed the group post-pandemic to reignite that performance aspect of their lives.

“The show is lighthearted, it takes Halloween themes and current local topics and gives them a fun twist,” Pádraig explained, describing how the group found “unexpected” success with the event, which he chalks up to the fact that “people are always looking for things to do at Halloween, but once you get to a certain age, there isn’t a lot on”.

The all-local cast, featuring actors Pádraig Lohan, Ronan Deegan, Seoirse Byrne and Tara Monaghan, wants the audience to get in the Halloween spirit with them, with a prize for best costume.

Stage Frights will run in the Record Room, beneath the Commercial bar, from Tuesday, October 19, to Thursday, October 31.
