CATHERINE Young Dance is stopping by the Lime Tree Theatre to present Floating on a Dead Sea as part of a national tour.

The performance promises to be “an immersive and visceral reflection on life in the West Bank prior to the 2023/24 war, interweaving dance, film, live music and text”.

In 2017, Catherine Young took her dance company to Palestine. Floating on a Dead Sea is inspired by this experience; the feeling of “being lifted and held by the generosity and kindness of a people, in a place where nothing is normal”.

The work features a cast of international dancers, including three Palestinian artists flying in from the West Bank, with visuals by filmmaker Luca Truffarelli and live music directed by Martin Schärer.

The show will present two interconnected works: Young and Truffarelli's documentary, alongside a live performance, re-worked for the new context in 2024.

Both pieces “weave movement, film, live music, and text to illuminate Palestinian daily life”.

Floating on a Dead Sea aims to be a chance to look and listen more deeply, especially to those whose voices are often unheard.

The performance will take place in the Lime Tree Theatre on Wednesday, October 23.

Tickets are available from limetreebelltable.ie, and the show is recommended for ages 12+.
