Joanne Beirne and Liam McCarthy celebrating 10 years of the Bualadh Bos Children's Festival this October
THE LIME Tree Theatre and Belltable team have put together an “exciting” programme of events for the annual Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival this October.
The festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, and is a legacy project from Limerick City of Culture 2014.
The aim of the festival, taking place from Wednesday, October 2 to Saturday, October 12, is to inspire and engage teachers, children and their families in the performing arts.
Liam McCarthy, festival curator said “Our priority was to include as many children as possible, especially those who may not have had the opportunity to experience Bualadh Bos before. We hope this year’s programme brings us another step closer to our long-term goal”.
“This year will see the best of Irish and International work for children playing on our stages across the city. We’re thrilled that Bualadh Bos 2024 also includes some brand new (and home grown) theatre for younger audiences,” he added.
An important element of the festival is the Pay It Forward Fundraising Campaign.
Working with Doras, this campaign will allow children and families to be included throughout the autumn family programme who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.

The festival’s organisers said: “This festival guarantees the perfect opportunity for children to be creative in a fun way, it allows them to use their imagination sparked by superb theatre, dance, music, creative workshops and lots more”.
Galway theatre company Branar Téatar do Pháistí will present a new, music-filled, bilingual show Story of a Day – Scéal Lae to open the festival on October 3 at 6.30pm.
Anna Newell Theatre Adventures presents the immersive show An Attempt to Talk to the Beginning of the World for babies up to 1 year old. Explore the mystery of lost post at The Dead Letter Office, or bring your toddler along to the interactive performance of Wooden Tales.
The Bualadh Bos Family Day will take place on Saturday, October 12. Boss Rob returns with A Masterclass for Aspiring Artists, this time to Limerick City Gallery of Art. Visit Dance Limerick for the dance show Moving Words, or get your storytelling fix at the Wandering Stories Workshop.
Bualadh Bop is also back, with an afternoon of music, dance, crafts and storytelling. The day will be topped off with a family film screening of The Muppets Take Manhattan.
