A WOODEN prefab in the grounds of St Camillus’ Hospital, which had been used as a recreation room for staff, has been demolished after rats had been found under it.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said that, in the past few days, a routine inspection had discovered rodents in the open space below the prefab, which was above gound level. The building was closed for use immediately and the environment health officer called in.
A decision was taken to demolish the building, without delay, and the demolition work went ahead this Thursday morning.
The spokeswoman said that the rodent problem had been eliminated. She added that the discovery had been made by hospital management themselves, and no complaint had been received. The INMO were not aware of the problem.
