Irish motorists warned as new safety recall issued for thousands of cars

The new recall affects almost 1,850 Santa Fe vehicles
Thousands of Hyundai cars in Ireland are subject to recall campaigns over a number of safety concerns, including a potential increased risk of fire.
More than 6,000 vehicles across four popular Hyundai models are affected by recall notices issued in Thousands of Hyundai drivers in Ireland are being alerted to a series of safety recalls, with a new recall affecting almost 1,850 Santa Fe vehicles.
The latest recall, dated September 10, concerns 1,849 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles produced between March 13, 2023 and March 24, 2026.
According to the Road Safety Authority (RSA), the front seat belt snap-on anchor on affected vehicles may become misaligned or come loose, potentially compromising the effectiveness of the seat belt.
The latest warning comes as more than 6,000 Hyundai vehicles have been affected across four separate recall campaigns in Ireland during 2026.
In addition to the Santa Fe recall, campaigns have been issued for certain Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 6 and i30 vehicles over separate safety concerns.
The largest of these affects 3,483 Hyundai Kona vehicles produced between January 24, 2018 and July 15, 2023.
The recall was announced in March and relates to battery monitoring software which may fail to promptly detect thermal instability within the vehicle's high-voltage battery, potentially increasing the risk of fire.
A further 700 Hyundai Ioniq 6 vehicles, manufactured between August 29, 2022 and January 3, 2025, are affected by a problem involving the charging port door.
The outer panel may have insufficient engagement with its retaining hooks, meaning it could detach while the vehicle is being driven.
According to the RSA, this could create a road hazard for other motorists and increase the risk of a crash.
Two Hyundai i30 vehicles produced between December 7, 2008 and February 24, 2009 are also affected by a recall concerning the driver's side airbag inflator.
The inflator could rupture during deployment, potentially preventing the airbag from fully inflating and propelling pieces of the inflator or airbag module into the passenger compartment.
Hyundai Cars Ireland will contact affected customers and advise them to make an appointment with their local Hyundai dealer or authorised repairer to have the necessary work carried out.
Motorists who believe their vehicle could be affected can also contact an authorised Hyundai dealer and provide their vehicle identification number (VIN) to check for an outstanding recall.
