Man appears in court in Limerick over drugs seizure

A COUNTY Clare man has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged in connection with a significant drugs seizure yesterday.

A COUNTY Clare man has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged in connection with a significant drugs seizure yesterday.

Ronan Clohessy, aged 24, of Crossfields, Cree, County Clare is charged with possession of 34kgs of cannabis herb for sale or supply.

The drugs, which have a street value of around €680,000 were seized when gardai from Limerick and Clare searched a house at Querrin near Kilkee yesterday.

This afternoon. Judge aeneas McCarthy was told the defendant replied “sorry” when he was formally charged at 9.32 this morning.

Detective Inspector John Galvin said the State was not objecting to bail but required an independent surety of €5,000.

Mr Clohessy, who is due to appear before Ennis District Court again in January, must sign-on daily at Kilrush Garda Station, surrender his passport and reside at Crossfields, Cree as a condition of his bail.
