Students are marking their first week back at college in style
LIMERICK students are back with a bang as the city is once again packed with young adults marking their first weeks of proper independence.
Any motorist commuting to and from work in Limerick is well aware of schools and colleges being back in session, with the roads being jam-packed with cars at rush hour.
Each night this week however, the traffic jams have been replaced by pedestrian jams with streets and laneways packed to the brim with third level students partying hard for Freshers Week.
The annual celebration consists of students marking their first week at college by heading to clubs, dancing the night away, and having fun in the way only college students know how.

Videos shared on social media show hordes of students hanging out around the Market Quarter and having some food after a long night of partying.
Other videos show massive numbers queuing up to get their night started, and, of course, hundreds of young people partying on the dance floor.
Comments on the videos ranged from people reminiscing about their nights out to people regretting missing out on the fun.
“Last night was a movie,” said one commenter, while another said, “Man I wish I was there”.
“Carnage,” was the simple description from one commenter.
Some TikTok users shared their joy for the young people out partying, with one person commenting, “Fair play to them, enjoying their lives,” and another saying, “Glad ye are back, enjoy yourselves”.

Enjoy themselves they did, with students smiling away all dolled up in their glad rags and their GAA jerseys for county colours night.
A wide range of counties’ jerseys could be spotted, though Limerick was very well represented.
Even members of An Garda Síochána got in on the fun, with one TikTok video showing a garda doing the trending ‘Scuba’ dance with two students.

Limerick City and County Council shared photos on Instagram of the clean-up one morning this week, with the team making the city’s Market Quarter spick and span after the previous night’s antics.
The heavily-littered streets were cleaned up and returned to normal by the council’s cleansing team.
The before and after pictures showed the busy morning the cleansing team had, with many commenters praising their hard work.
