Five-star opera coming to Limerick

A FIVE star opera will make a stop in Limerick as part of its Irish tour.
Donizetti’s effervescent comic masterpiece, Don Pasquale, will be performed at the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick, on Thursday, February 9.
A hit with audiences and critics alike when it opened last year, the opera was welcomed with sold-out shows and five-star reviews.
Directed by Edwina Casey, with set and costume design by Annemarie Woods and lighting design by Paul Keogan, Don Pasquale is an intergenerational story about a tug of war between young love and old money – whipped up by lots of deceit.
The opera tells the tale of Don Pasquale, a grumpy old bachelor, as well as his good-looking young heir, Ernesto, and attractive young widow, Norina.
Bass Graeme Danby sings the title role, while tenor Rhodri Prys Jones plays his nephew Ernesto, and soprano Kelli-Ann Masterson performs as Norina.
With an unorthodox love triangle, Dorizetti’s opera delivers a hilarious and a touching masterpiece that takes a riotously entertaining slant on a threat of disinheritance, a mock marriage, and a spendthrift wife who believes husbands should be seen – and not heard.
Presented by Irish National Opera, Don Pasquale will be on tour in Limerick on February 9, at 8pm.
