STAFF at Intel Shannon will be visiting primary schools in Limerick and Clare this week to judge science projects as part of its Mini Scientists exhibition.

The annual programme “invites primary school students from the Limerick, Shannon and Ennis region to develop science-related projects which are then exhibited at fairs held in their own schools and winning projects are then chosen to go forward to a grand final event which is hosted this year for the first time at Intel Shannonâ€, a company spokesperson explained.

Open to fourth, fifth and sixth classes, children have been working on their projects since September as part of a competition that complements the primary science curriculum and encourages practical learning. Winners selected from nine schools this week will go on to the grand final on December 7, when the overall winner will be announced by Intel Shannon general manager Jonathan Walsh.

Intel employs over 200 people at Shannon.
