HUGELY popular Limerick jockey Wesley Joyce was back racing on Bank Holiday Monday just over one year after he sustained bad injuries in a fall at the Galway Races.
It's just over a year since the Moyross teenager was unseated during the Arthur Guinness Irish EBF Corrib Fillies Stakes, a seven-furlong listed event - Joyce was riding Red Heel for Michael Mulvany. The 19 year old Limerick city jockey and Red Heel were disputing the lead when appearing to stumble at the road crossing, sending his rider crashing to the turf.
Joyce sustained a vascular injury within his chest, damage to his larynx and also to his lungs, ribs and collarbone.
He has battling back to health but continues to have difficulty with his voice.
A delighted Wesley Joyce was back in the saddle for the first time with two rides at Naas on Bank Holiday Monday.
