MUNSTER Rugby kicked off their run of pre-season friendlies with a heavy 33-12 defeat to great rivals Leinster in front of a sell-out attendance at Musgrave Park on Friday evening.
After Munster scored an early converted try, Leinster hit back with 26 unanswered points to lead by 19 points at half-time.
Both sides emptied the bench in the second half, managing to add just a single converted try to their tally with Munster's five-pointer scored by Limerick teenager Stephen Kiely on his senior debut the province.
Kiely was one of a number of players who made their senior debuts in the game including Limerick second-row and Ireland U20 star Evan O'Connell along with Kieran Ryan and Shay McCarthy.
Next up for Munster is a Friday, September 22 meeting with Galway at the Sportsground in their second pre-season outing.
Following Friday night's loss to Leinster, Leader Sport's Siadbh Redmond caught up with Munster attack coach Mike Prendergast.
