WATCH: 'I'll use my fourth place finishes as motivation' says Limerick Paralympic Swimmer Róisín Ní Riain

Ní Riain was one of Team Ireland's most successful athletes at these games coming home with two Paralympic medals

"I'm going to use those two fourth place finishes as motivation over the next few years, it gives me some extra to training for."

This was two-time Paralympic swimmer Róisín Ní Riain's response to her incredible display at this summer's Paralympic Games, which saw the nineteen year-old return to Limerick with a silver medal in the women’s S13 100m Backstroke and a bronze in the SM13 Individual Medley, only narrowly missing out on further medals in the Breaststroke and Butterfly finals.

Speaking at the official opening of her former secondary school Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh, Ní Riain went on to say: "My season is finished now for the year so it's just a bit of downtime for the next few weeks and get some much needed rest and then reset for next season and World's next year.

"I'm looking forward to getting back into college in UL for second-year, it'll be nice to be back to normality for a while and a couple weeks out of the pool. I'll be back living with all my college friends and watching them go to training rather than joining them."

Downtime is well and truly needed for the Drombanna native who had one of the busiest schedules of any of the Irish athletes competing in four different events in which she qualified for finals in each one, totally an amazing seven swims throughout the Paralympics.

The Sports Science student continued by stating: "I think it's very important to be happy while competing, but also be able to park that and move on to the next race. I have a good few races over the eight days so it's about managing your emotions and learning how to do is definitely not easy, but it's about having a moment to be happy and celebrate and then head back down for the next race."
