HONOURING the life and works of Limerick author, Kate O’Brien, one literary festival will celebrate its 39th anniversary this year.
Formerly known as Kate O’Brien Weekend, the Limerick Literary Festival promotes Limerick as a place of literary excellence. On February 1, the festival was launched in O’Mahony’s Bookshop.
By attracting prominent participants from home and abroad, the event provides a valuable platform where readers can meet their favourite authors and fellow bookworms.
From February 24 to 26, Limerick Literary Festival will take place in both The People’s Museum, and in the Belltable.
This year’s line-up will see guest readings from authors Casey King, Sean Hewitt, Donal Ryan, Maggie O’Neil – and, several others.
Highlights will include the launch of an exhibition of archive materials from the late Limerick poet, Desmond O’Grady, which will be displayed in the People’s Museum. A poetry reading will also take place at the Dooradoyle Library on Friday.
On the last of the festival, the Kate O’Brien Award will see three shortlisted writers talk about, and read from their debut books. This year’s, the shortlist includes Sheila Armstrong for her short story collection How to Gut a Fish, Olivia Fitzsimons for her novel The Quiet Whispers Never Stop and Emilie Pine for her novel Ruth and Pen.
