A HUGE statuesque bear is on the prowl on the grounds of Adare Manor - but there’s no need to panic, as it’s not likely to be moving anywhere.
In fact, the Adare hotel and golf resort is now home to the largest figurative bronze sculpture ever made in Ireland.
The bronze bear, which stands at four metres tall, was produced by renowned Irish artist Patrick O’Reilly.
The sculpture, titled ‘In Search of Lost Time’, shows the bear marching forward. It stems from the idea that from early childhood, many of our first memories include a special teddy bear, personifying companionship, trust and innocence.
The Adare Bear represents an air of optimism and the way we march on, taking in the wonders of life in a childlike way.
General manager of Adare Manor Paul Heery said that the bear is generating “a huge amount of interest” from the staff and guests, “who have had a sneak peek at this masterpiece” by Patrick O’Reilly.
“We are delighted to have this sculpture on the grounds of Adare Manor for all guests and the team to enjoy, prompting happy memories of their childhood,” he added.
Sculptor Patrick O’Reilly said that the piece allows viewers to “revisit the essence of their past, leading to flashbacks and recollections of preceding times”.
“That significant memory involves events long past with happy and joyous nostalgia, but with an awareness that life moves on,” he added.
Adare Manor reopened last November after an extensive restoration, refurbishment and expansion programme taking 21 months.
And in April, Adare Manor will open its newly rebuilt, redesigned and remodelled golf course, which was led by world-renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio.
The resort is quickly taking its place as a top luxury destination in Ireland and around the world.
The manor also recently appointed a new resident manager, Brendan O’Connor.
As resident manager, Brendan is now deputy to general manager Paul Heery.
Brendan will oversee the management of Adare Manor’s rooms division, facilities, security and The Spa at Adare Manor.
Brendan joined the team at Adare Manor in 2015 as Director of Food and Beverage and has over fifteen years experience working in many prestigious hotels around the world, including the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman, the Sheen Falls Hotel Kerry and the Waldorf Astoria New York.
Brendan has also worked in senior hospitality management roles during Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
