A BIG SCREEN is expected to be erected in Newcastle West to allow fans watch Limerick's bid for four All-Ireland titles in a row.
Talks are at an advanced stage with a view to hosting a watch party at The Square in the county town, with a giant screen put up in front of Desmond Castle.
If it happens, it'll be the first time since the hurlers' breakthrough win in 2018 that the area will have hosted a big screen.
Limerick Live understands that the local authority will support the initiative with funding following an intervention from councillor Michael Collins, who is based in Newcastle West.
It would be a huge boost. We've got a huge problem with trying to secure tickets so this will be an opportunity for people to come and have a fun day, congregate in the town, spend a bit of money in the town, which is vitally important," he said.
The 2018 big screen event was a "huge success", Cllr Collins said, "I think we had in excess of 2,000 people in The Square itself. It was a good atmosphere and a good fun day. I'm sure that will be replicated."
He confirmed there have been talks with council, and more will be announced in the days to come.
