A CONSULTATION process is underway ahead of the completion of the 2023 policing plan for the Limerick garda division.
The plan, which has a number of key pillars and which feeds into the overall national policing strategy, will be submitted to Chief Superintendent Derek Smart for formal approval in the coming weeks.
Various stakeholders attended a public meeting at the Strand Hotel, earlier this week, where the key elements of the plan were outlined while Superintendent Kieran Ruane also gave a briefing on the new operational model for Limerick which was rolled out last September.
Supt Ruane, who has overall responsibility for Performance Assurance in the Limerick division, says the policing plan is extremely important for the force locally.
“While managing the day-to-day policing in Limerick city and county takes place, it’s important that we look strategically at where we are going in 2023 and the most important part of developing that plan is that we consult with key stakeholders,” he said.
Dr Pat Daly, CEO of Limerick City and County Council and Prof Colette Cowan, CEO of UL Hospitals Group were among those who attended the consultation meeting along with representatives of various other voluntary and State agencies.
“It’s important that we talk to other bodies, other organisations, agencies, residents groups outlining what out plan is and what they feel should be consider,” added Supt Ruane.
