Christmas in Limerick 2024: The Magic Starts With You!

LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) invites you to experience the joy of the festive season as Limerick comes alive with magic to make this Christmas unforgettable. 

The Council’s Marketing and Communications Department today launched a multi-media campaign to shine a light on all the Christmas wonders on offer from the Festivals and Events team at the Council and from event organisers across Limerick city and county. 

The Christmas in Limerick 2024 launch video highlights that the “Magic Starts with You” this Christmas in Limerick. No matter what Christmas means to you, be it family, friends, shopping, night life, or relaxing by the fire, Limerick City and County has some magic for you.  

From Limerick’s first ever illuminated Christmas procession, to ice-skating, circus acts, festive food and sparkling lights, Limerick has something for everyone to enjoy at the most wonderful time of the year!

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran says it is a time to come together: "This Christmas in Limerick experience the wonder of the magical lights procession, festive markets, and other delightful events that bring our community together.

"From heartwarming performances to unique local shopping, there's something for everyone. Let's celebrate the spirit of the season with love, laughter, and the magic of togetherness.

“This year we are spreading the festive cheer by offering prizes for the most festive looking homes and businesses, so watch out for details of how to enter the Christmas in Limerick Merry and Bright Challenge in the coming days. Remember to shop local, support Limerick, and make this Christmas unforgettable.” 

Donn O’Sullivan, Head of Marketing and Communications at Limerick City and County Council added: "We're delighted to launch the Christmas in Limerick 2024 campaign, where the magic of the season comes alive! Over the next six weeks we will be highlighting a flurry of events and activities that will sprinkle holiday cheer all over Limerick.

"We’ve gathered information from event organisers right across the county in one place on Limerick.ie/Christmas. Dive into the festive fun, take part in our incredible competitions with some great prizes on offer, and keep an eye on our social media for jolly updates and merry surprises.

"Remember, the magic starts with you! Let's make this Christmas in Limerick a dazzling winter wonderland."

Here is a selection of some of the Christmas events:

On Sunday, December 1, at 7:30pm, LUXE Theatre Company presents a magical, illuminated Christmas procession in Limerick. Enjoy wintry performers and larger than life characters as they enchant the city streets with seasonal fairy tales and guiding stars. 

Limerick’s beloved ice-skating rink returned to Arthur’s Quay Park on Friday, November 15. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a beginner, enjoy the magic of real ice. It’s the perfect winter family fun activity. 

Experience the magic of Fossett’s Circus in Limerick from December 19 to January 07. Take in the acrobatics, daredevil stunts, and festive fun with Otto the Clown and Marionn Fossett. Don’t miss it! 

Join the festive family sing-along with Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Elf and Santa at the Millennium Theatre, Sunday 1 December.  

Discover the latest fashion trends at King John’s Castle with Celia Holman Lee and the Holman Lee Agency on Saturday, December 7 at 12pm. 

Embrace the festive spirit with delicious traditional food, handmade crafts and beautiful gifts. Enjoy the heated seats at the Open-Air Café, the Ivory Elephant Vintage Christmas Fair, Santa Paws and Santa Clause, and the Christmas Transition Year Enterprise Market. 

Join storyteller and musician David Collopy as he recounts stories of Christmas traditions gone by, including the Hunting of the Wren, Thomond Bridge on Christmas Eve, the bells of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Nollaig na Mban! 

Limerick Greenway is hosting a festive family fun day this Christmas! Join Santa and Mrs. Claus on a charity cycle at 11am Sunday 8 December, followed by face painting, goodie bags and prizes for the best dressed! For a special memento of the day, get a photo with the main man himself! 

Christmas shoppers and visitors to Limerick city can avail of more than 9,000 designated on and off-street car parking spaces, 46 km of dedicated cycle lanes and over 30 bus routes serving the city, county and region. 

There is also free parking in Limerick City and County Council Car Park, behind Merchant’s Quay, with access via Nicholas Street, from 9am to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays from November 23 to December 22 and 9am to 4pm on Christmas Eve.   

There are also over 4,000 on-street parking spaces in Limerick City on the street, with free parking Sundays and €1/hour daily. It is free after 5:30pm.

In Abbeyfeale, Killmallock and Newcastle West, the first hour is free between 9.30am and 5.30pm, with an additional two hours free on-street parking, from 2.30pm daily from December 2 to 31. It is free on Sundays.
