WATCH: Jubilant scenes in Limerick as 20,000 welcome home the All-Ireland champions

THE ESTIMATED 20,000 supporters who gathered at Pery Square this Monday evening added to the already electric atmosphere that the Limerick senior hurling team and panel brought with them to the homecoming celebration.

Large crowds gathered from 5pm to greet the boys in green as they returned home having beaten Kilkenny by 30 points to 2-15 at Croke Park just over 24 hours earlier.

There were many speeches and words of jubilation with captain Cian Lynch thanking the crowds, saying: “Hurling - we are playing a sport we love, but at the end we’re a family and we stick together on the bad days and moreso even the good days.

“And looking out here, what ye have done for us as young players playing a sport, we hope to encourage each and everyone of you to live your dream, just like we are.”

Manager John Kiely addressed the thousands of ecstatic supporters saying the homecoming celebration it is a memory that they, as a group, will hold on to forever.

“This is just incredible! When we look back in years to come, I hope we realise that this is just an incredible sight and an amazing memory to have as a group. Ye [fans] have been with us the whole way through, and we are appreciative of what ye done for us all.”
