Former Limerick FC player joins Shamrock Rovers for record fee

Sligo Rovers captain Will Fitzgerald has joined Shamrock Rovers for a fee believed to be a club record €75,000
The Limerick native and former Limerick FC player joined the Premier Division table toppers on deadline day earlier this week for a club record fee.
It’s a blow for a Sligo Rovers side who sit bottom of the Premier Division table on 21 points, one point adrift of ninth place Waterford FC.
A talented winger, Fitzgerald began his career at Mungret Regional and Mervue United before moving on to Limerick FC.
The Raheen native has enjoyed a stellar League of Ireland career since joining Limerick in 2016.
The 27-year-old enjoyed stints with his native Limerick, Waterford, Derry City and most notably Sligo Rovers where he made 154 appearances.
Fitzgerald also has international experience under his belt.
In February 2019, Fitzgerald was called up to Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland U21 side for the first time for a training camp and made his debut in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland Ametuer team.
Fitzgerald joins a Shamrock rovers side who sit top of the Premier Division table on 50 points after 25 matches played.
The Hoops hold a five-point advantage over county rivals St Patrick’s Athletic in second place.
Next up for Shamrock Rovers is the short trip north to face Drogheda United on Friday night at 7.45pm where Fitzgerald could be in line to make his ‘Shams’ debut.
