An Ireland XV squad that will play Fiji in Cork next month has been named

NINE MUNSTER players have been selected in an Irish XV squad for a one-off text against Fiji at Virgin Media Park on November 20.

Head coach Mark Sexton has picked a 28-man squad that will be captained by Leinster’s Gus McCarthy in Cork.

Tom Ahern, Sean and Edwin Edogbo, Kieran Brookes, Jack Aungier, Brian Gleeson, Michael Milne, Dan Kelly and Shay McCarthy are the Munster nine named by Sexton. The game will be the first of three played by the ‘XV’ throughout the season.

The squad will assemble in Cork on Monday, November 16 to begin preparations for the Friday night game.

The fixture against Fiji will form part of a double-header at Virgin Media Park as Ireland U20s go head-to-head with Scotland U20s earlier in the evening at 5pm. Broadcast details for the games will be confirmed in due course.

“I am proud and excited to work with the Ireland XV squad for the forthcoming match against Fiji 'A' in Cork,” said head coach Sexton.

“This will be a great opportunity to provide an ambitious playing group from across the four provinces with a meaningful fixture against what is a talented Fiji side.

“I know from my personal experience of coaching sides in Cork with the Ireland U20s how influential a vocal Cork and Munster supporter base can be and hopefully we can count on another big crowd.

“I'm looking forward to working with the coaching team and players over the coming weeks. This is a hugely important fixture for players to put their hands up and try to break into the senior men's squad and everyone will be motivated to be switched on and ready to take the chance to deliver in an Irish jersey.”

Tickets for the double-header at Virgin Media Park are on sale now via Ticketmaster.ie.
