Munster Rugby star signs two-year contract extension with the province
Munster Rugby have confirmed that centre Alex Nankivell has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the province until at least 2029.
The 29-year-old joined Munster from the Chiefs in the summer of 2023 and immediately established himself as a key member of the squad. His debut season saw him become a fans’ favourite with his all-action displays. Equally effective in attack and defence, Nankivell scored three tries in 19 appearances to earn a place in the URC Elite XV.
Despite missing two months with a hamstring injury, he scored four tries in 15 starts in his second year at Munster in 2024/25. Last season, Nankivell made a huge contribution and featured in 20 games, earning three Player of the Match awards. He capped off the season with appearances for the Barbarians against South Africa and Wales.
A hugely influential and popular member of the squad, he has made 58 Munster appearances to date and won both the Bank of Ireland Men’s Player of the Year and Virgin Media Supporters’ Players Of The Year awards at the 2026 Munster Rugby Awards.
Munster Rugby General Manager Ian Costello said:
"Alex is a highly valued and respected member of the squad who has made a massive contribution both on and off the pitch since joining Munster.
"We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club and look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a player and build on his performances in a Munster jersey.
"He has ambitions to play at international level, and we hope to see him realise that potential in the near future."
