GARRYOWEN head coach, Tom Tierney insists he is expecting Shannon to prove formidable opponents in their AIL Division 1A clash at Dooradoyle tonight, Friday, November 9, despite their lowly league position.
While Garryowen lost their most recent League fixture against UL-Bohemian, the ‘light blues’ remain just one point behind top leaders Lansdowne.
Shannon are propping up the 1A table after losing each of their four opening fixtures in the top flight. The Parish club is also on the look-out for a new head coach following the weekend departure of Stephen Keogh and the club’s backs coach, Eoin Cahill.
Garryowen head coach, Tom Tierney insisted League positions count for nothing when it comes to meetings between the two sides.
Tierney said: “Shannon haven’t started as well as they would have liked. But that goes out to window when it comes to a Limerick derby, especially one between Garryowen and Shannon. It’s a 50/50 game.
“Positions in the table mean absolutely nothing. Shannon will be gunning for us. It is all about who can handle it most.
“Over the course of the next few weeks, every team will know exactly where they stand in relation to their players and the league standings. We are under no illusions.
“It is a Cup final every week. It is the same on Friday against Shannon.”
