Darragh O’Donovan’s celebration after Limerick’s epic Munster final win has taken over social media

STAR Limerick hurler Darragh O’Donovan has gone viral for his jubilant celebration after the Shannonsiders regained the Munster hurling title.

Limerick took back the Mick Mackey Cup, beating the Rebels in their own backyard with a nail-biting one-point win.

With a final result of 1-21 to 2-17, Limerick manager John Kiely dubbed the match “a proper Munster final”.

The Cranberries’ Dreams was the perfect soundtrack to the sea of green and white that flooded the pitch after the game, with thousands of Limerick fans celebrating the incredible win.

The hurlers themselves were also ecstatic at the result, with star player Darragh O’Donovan’s celebration going viral across social media.

During the post-match pitch invasion, one Limerick fan embraced O’Donovan and handed him a flag.

The Doon clubman then planted it onto the pitch in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Hundreds of thousands have viewed the video online, which was filmed by RTE Sunday Game Live.

Cork soil didn’t seem to take too well to the green and white, with the flag falling soon after it was planted on the ground.

Many fans online pointed out the similarities to Graeme Souness’ 1996 planting of the Galatasaray flag in the centre circle of arch-rivals Fenerbahçe’s pitch , with one user saying: “Darragh O’Donovan channelling his inner Graeme Souness with the flag plant!”
