Premier IHC round-up: David Reidy stars as Dromin-Athlacca set early pace

Elsewhere the opening round of the Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship saw two draws

EXACTLY a week after taking in the glory of winning a sixth All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medal with Limerick, David Reidy was back in the blue of Dromin-Athlacca - and was the main man as his side got off to a winning start in the Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.
Reidy scored 0-7 - six from play - as his side’s bid to bounce back to senior hurling at the first attempt got off to a bright start: James Kennedy’s men were 1-25 to 0-16 winners over Glenroe.
Premier Intermediate Hurling Championships results:
In what is historically an extremely competitive competition with tight matches throughout, the margin of victory, and boost to score difference it brings with it, is arguably worth an extra point on the board.
So tightly matched are the octet of clubs involved in Limerick hurling’s second tier that two of other three games over the weekend finished all square.
Despite a seven-point half-time lead, Blackrock were content with a draw against Bruff in Knocklong on Saturday.
Former Limerick midfielder Paul Browne scored direct from a sideline cut to tie things up at 0-18 apiece just as the clock hit 60 minutes.
Bruff had a guilt-edged chance to win the game but may concede that a Blackrock side inspired by former Limerick U20 captain Jimmy Quilty were value for a draw.
Sunday afternoon’s clash between Croagh-Kilfinny and Effin also ended with a share of the spoils. Effin had county men Nickie Quaid and Paddy O’Donovan (who scored 0-4) lining out for this clash in Ballyagran.
Unlike the game of two halves in Knocklong the previous day, this was nip and tuck throughout with the sides level on a remarkable 14 occasions over the hour.
The championship got underway on Thursday as Murroe-Boher got off to a winning start in the second tier, seeing off Granagh-Ballingarry on a 1-19 to 1-14 scoreline in Adare.
Pat Tobin’s side, back at this grade after winning the Intermediate Championship in 2025, were full value for their victory in what was a high-quality contest.
Seanie Tobin fired over 1-7 for the east Limerick side who led by four points at the break but Granagh-Ballingarry fought back to lead after a Sean O’Connor goal.
The competition continues this weekend with the second round clashes.
