THE UNIVERSITY of Limerick added to their remarkable trophy haul, beating UCC in the Higher Education All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship final, emerging 1-21 to 0-18 winners at the Mardyke last night.

The win added even more silverware to UL, who achieved a historic Fitzgibbon-Sigerson double recently.

They led from start to finish on Leeside last night with Ned Walsh from JK Brackens in Tipperary opening the scoring with an opportunist second minute goal.

The side was packed with local players too with Conor Hanley Clark (Kilmallock), Ronan Lyons (Monaleen), Chris Thomas (Doon), Sean O'Neill (Blackrock), Tadgh Boddy (Dromin-Athlacca) and JJ Carey (Na Piarsaigh) all starting for the Limerick college. Sean Carroll (Kilmallock) and Colin Bresnihan (Castletown-Ballyagran) were also on the panel.

The two colleges meet again on Wednesday, this time in the Freshers 1 Hurling Championship semi-final.

In a season of unprecedented success for UL, there were also wins last night for their Fresher 2 and Junior footballers.
