WATCH: Biggest cheer reserved for Caroline Currid in winning captain's speech

Cian Lynch’s mention of her name prompted an almighty roar from the green-and-white faithful.

Limerick captain Cian Lynch reserved his most heartfelt praise for performance psychologist Caroline Currid following his side’s victory over Galway at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Treaty county produced a masterclass performance to comprehensively defeat the Tribesmen on a scoreline of 1-29 to 1-18, to win the Shannonsider’s sixth All-Ireland title in nine years.

In his speech after lifting the Liam MacCarthy cup, Cian Lynch thanked every member of the panel and the backroom team but it was his tribute to Caroline Currid that drew the loudest cheers.

The Patrickswell man’s mention of her name prompted an almighty roar from the green-and-white faithful.

"We’re just privileged and honoured to have you part of our group, Caroline, to have you back with us this year," an emotional Lynch stated on the steps of the Hogan Stand. "Your knowledge, your information that you share with us... but you’re just that mother figure."

Lynch highlighted that Currid's invaluable guidance transcends what happens on the pitch, acting as an anchor for the players during testing times.

"You’re someone that we can lean on, outside of sport and in our lives in general, and we really do appreciate you, so thank you, Caroline," he added.
