Thirsty work these All-Irelands! Two Limerick hurlers spotted getting a round in on live TV!
Well deserved beverages for Limerick’s Liam MacCarthy Cup winners!
WINNING an All-Ireland senior hurling title is obviously thirsty work – as Sunday night's live TV broadcast proved!
As is tradition on RTÉ's The Sunday Game after the All-Ireland final, viewers were treated to a live link-up from the victorious team's hotel - the Clayton Burlington Road in Dublin.
Limerick captain Cian Lynch and manager John Kiely were being interviewed by Joanne Cantwell during the gala dinner celebrating Limerick's sixth Liam MacCarthy Cup in nine years.
But while Lynch and Kiely were front and centre, two of Limerick's defensive stars were quietly carrying out a mission of their own in the background – securing the next round!
Centre-back William O'Donoghue and corner-back Barry Nash could be spotted near the bar, pints in hand, deep in conversation as they plotted their route back through the packed banqueting hall. Renowned for their defensive awareness on the pitch, there was nowhere to hide from the TV cameras as they carefully navigated the room while trying not to spill a drop.
While they may be experts at closing down space in defence, on this occasion their tactical plan was exposed from every angle. Nash eventually found cover in the corner, but O'Donoghue was left as the target man with no sweeper to help out, standing right between Cian Lynch and John Kiely in the full glare of the rolling camera.
Safe to say they were probably the sweetest sups either man has ever tasted - and after another All-Ireland triumph, they were certainly well earned.
