Limerick Celtics pulled off a shock against top of the table Limerick Eagles in their Men’s Super League game at UL Arena

Limerick Eagles maintain their top spot in the Domino’s Men’s Super League despite an 85-76 defeat to Limerick Celtics in their local derby at the UL Area

The win for the Celtics gives them bragging rights after a nine-point margin against an Eagles side that had been unbeaten to that point.

Celtics began the game with seven unanswered points before Eagles finally got on the board. The second half scoring blitz from the Celtics gave them a 16-point headstart for the second half but it was Eagles who narrowed the deficit to nine points before the final quarter.

The sides traded score for score in the fourth period, before Limerick Celtics ultimately won 85-76.

Peter Turay collected his third double-double of the season, with 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Tiras Morton racked up 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Irishman Ryan Leonard ended the game on a season-high 16 points, while also getting six assists, as Aaron Rhooms topped the Eagles scoreboard with 30 points.

Limerick Celtics travel east to take on UCD Marian today, while the Limerick Eagles host EJ Sligo All-Stars in round five.

The Celtics women’s team pulled off a bit of a shock when they earned a two-point win over defending Domino’s WSL National Cup champions Killester.

Killester looked to have sealed the game after outscoring Celtics 17-7 in the third quarter but a 25-point scoring blitz from the home side saw them come away with their second win of the season in Crescent College.

The win moves a Celtics side that play VSC Cavan Eagles at the same venue today into seventh place in the table.
