Edna O’Brien revisits her era-defining debut novel in a new stage adaptation of The Country Girls, coming to the Lime Tree Theatre next year
THE Abbey Theatre has announced a welcome return to the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick for summer of next year.
Edna O’Brien’s The Country Girls will be on the Lime Tree stage from Tuesday, April 30, to Saturday, May 4.
Directed by Graham McLaren, O’Brien revisits her era-defining debut novel in the new stage adaptation for the Abbey, which brought the wonderful Jimmy’s Hall to Limerick this year.
“This points to the fact that Limerick and the Lime Tree Theatre are now firmly on a exclusive list of important national venues for the Abbey Theatre,” said venue boss Louise Donlon.
“We in the Lime Tree Theatre are very proud that we have achieved this through a lot of hard work and dedication to the highest level of professionalism and greatly look forward to presenting this work by the acclaimed writer, Edna O’Brien,” she added.
The Lime Tree will also welcome back Druid on March 26 and 27 with Furniture, written by Sonya Kelly and Directed by Cathal Cleary, as part of a top quality programme for 2019.
