LIMERICK is being served up in style on RTÉ One this Christmas, as Neven Maguire tucks into the city’s festive flavours in a two-part special, Neven’s Christmas in Limerick.

The celebrity chef visits some of the city’s culinary landmarks, including O’Connell’s Butchers, a family-run craft butcher in operation since 1919, known for its famous Limerick Christmas ham.

At the historic Milk Market, dating back to 1852, he meets local producers and explores the array of fresh, locally-sourced and artisan foods that make Limerick a food lover’s destination.

The programme also highlights Limerick’s rich heritage.

Neven visits St. Mary’s Cathedral, founded in 1168 and overlooking the River Shannon, where he meets the Dean, the Very Reverend Niall Sloane.

“I was honoured to visit the historic St. Mary's Cathedral and enjoy performances of beautiful Christmas music,” said Neven.

The first episode closes with a festive Christmas carol performed by the local An Cór Chamber Choir inside the cathedral.

Alongside showcasing Limerick’s culinary and cultural treasures, Neven prepares a festive menu, including Smoked Salmon Galettes, Glazed Rack of Pork with Creamy Roast Potatoes, and a No Bake Chocolate Tart.

“I was delighted to explore Limerick city for my Christmas programmes this year and I was inspired by the people I met,” said Neven.

“They were so welcoming and proud of what they do, and where they come from.”

The first of the two-part special, ‘Neven’s Christmas in Limerick’, will air on RTÉ One, tonight at 8pm, with the second part set to follow the following Thursday, December 11.

Together, the programmes promise a festive celebration of Limerick’s food, culture, and Christmas spirit.
