A centrepiece of Limerick’s annual Samhain Halloween Festival, sponsored by Lumen Street Theatre with media partnership from overdrive.ie , runs until November 3.
“Tinte Marbh is a celebration of dark creativity – a fire that refuses to die out. These artists embody the spirit of Samhain, channelling shadow into works that are as transformative as they are unsettling,” said organisers.
The exhibition features some of Ireland’s most acclaimed alternative, pagan, and dark arts creators - Ken Coleman, Gary Ronaldson (Bite Radius Designs), Stephen Lindsay (The Iron Parasite), Roseanne Hayes (Blasted Heathen), and Colin Bolger (Dabúlga Design).
Each artist brings their own distinctive vision, rooted in heavy music culture, Celtic heritage, dark surrealism, and visceral storytelling.
Ken Coleman, from Lisnagry, is internationally recognised for his post-humanist, mixed-media works. He has collaborated with global acts including Morbid Angel and The Cranberries. Ken’s practice merges painting, sculpture, and cutting-edge 3D technology, exploring beauty within darkness.
Colin Bolger (Dabúlga Design) is known for blending Celtic heritage with contemporary illustration. He reimagines myth and folklore through a symbolic lens, creating transformative works for bands such as zhOra, Ten Ton Slug, and Jenova.
Roseanne Hayes (Blasted Heathen) is Limerick-based illustrator and long-time visual architect of the Siege of Limerick Festival. She creates visceral, hand-drawn digital works steeped in mythology, horror, and the occult.
Stephen Lindsay (The Iron Parasite) is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, illustration, and photo-manipulation. He specialises in striking designs for albums, logos, and merchandise, with a focus on conceptual and darkly imaginative work.
Gary Ronaldson (Bite Radius Designs) is an Irish illustrator based in Dublin. He has spent over 13 years working with some of the biggest names in underground metal. Clients include Sepultura, Exodus, Napalm Death, Arch Enemy, Death, Kreator, Misery Index, Pig Destroyer, Thy Art Is Murder, and Autopsy.
His work ranges from cartoony to hyper-realistic, with bold use of colour and an energy rooted in his background in classical animation. Beyond his acclaimed design practice, Gary has worked as a professional animator for 25 years across the games, film VFX, and TV industries.
He is currently an Animation Director at Brown Bag Films in Dublin, collaborating with global giants such as Disney, Netflix, Apple, and Nickelodeon.
Audiences are invited to experience the collision of myth, metal, and the macabre in the heart of Limerick’s medieval quarter before it is too late.
