The Heffernan family, descendants of the 1825 Peter Robinson settlers in Canada
THIS year, will be a celebration of 200 years of Irish Canadian connections, bringing people together to share experiences and build diaspora connections.
In commemoration of this momentous occasion, Ballyhoura Development CLG, in collaboration with the Peter Robinson settlers’ descendants, has devised a week-long event highlighting community visits, a Remembrance Ceremony at the point of departure, Cobh, and a live concert.
The Homecoming will begin on Monday, September 15, 2025, with a week of celebrations, culminating in a Commemorative Event at Griston Bog on Sunday, September 21.

Across the event week, Ballyhoura communities will have the unique opportunity to engage with returning descendants, share local stories, and celebrate the shared cultural heritage of the region.
