David Holmes will perform in The Commercial on July 19 I PICTURE: Steve Gullick

RENOWNED DJ David Holmes will be performing this week in Limerick.
The Commercial has announced a series of shows part of The Sevens, where a number of select DJ sets and conversations will take place in the basement Record Room across 2024, with more dates and artists to be announced later in the year.
On Friday, July 19, regarded DJ and award-winning film composer David Holmes will play in the Record Room, with supported from Arveene. This follows David’s release of his first solo album in 15 years, Blind On A Galloping Horse.
A highly-regarded DJ whose deep musical knowledge informs every aspect of his work, David Holmes began DJing in Belfast clubs when he was 14 years old. He released his first techno and house singles in the early 90s, before his ambitious first album, This Film's Crap, Let's Slash The Seats, introduced the cinematic scope of his production that came to define his style - a style that grew even more evident in the New York-inspired next record, Let's Get Killed.
As David moved into scoring films such as Steve McQueen's Hunger and Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight and Ocean's Eleven series, he combined the sampling he'd become renowned for in his production, with the pace and rhythms of his releases and compilations, and the keen sense of mood, atmosphere and place honed through decades of club DJing. With more dates and artists to be announced for later in the year, The Commercial will welcome David to the Record Room basement as part of The Sevens - a series of shows inviting artists back to Limerick, or to the city for the first time.
