On my stylish escape, I had some wild encounters, including that of King Kong on a palm tree-lined walkway! We had great fun on our trip, the weather was wall-to-wall sunshine and the views were trul
IT GOT a bit ‘wild’ on my trip to Málaga, as I met King Kong on a walk along the beach! 51 years on, my husband Ger Lee and I visited again, where we first went together on our honeymoon.
We have been back many times since, but this time was extra special.
I love Málaga, and over the years, it has completely rejuvenated itself. This ancient city has utterly transformed into a beautiful slice of paradise.
Now all pedestrianised, it reminds me somewhat of home - the differences being the white tiled boulevards decorated with exotic flowers and palm trees.
I miss home whenever I am away, and I truly believe that Limerick could learn a lot from Málaga. I see similarities and differences and can compare it to my hometown.

Pictured above: My friend Anne O'Halloran and I pictured in Málaga city centre on our Spanish excursions. Anne is a dear friend of mine who travelled from Marbella to meet Ger Lee and I. As a former Miss Limerick, Anne is always oh so glamorous!
It is heartwarming to see Limerick is slowly transforming into a city much like this: pedestrianised, with new benches, seating areas and the new mobile mini forest. Reminders of home are dotted around this wonderful place, albeit the weather is hotter here!
The difference with Málaga is that the deep blue Mediterranean sea is the backdrop to the city.
As one of the oldest cities in the world, the architecture of the stunning cathedrals and sights here are breathtaking.
I’m so grateful to have had a sunny Spanish holiday and found that the little break has done my husband Ger and I the world of good.
We packed our bags and headed off on our reminiscent trip from Shannon Airport, which is always a joy to fly from.
15 minutes from the car to the boarding gate, and no liquid restrictions in our carry-on bags, thanks to the security screening technology, means that it was a pleasure travelling with them.
I went shopping and had authentic Spanish tapas, while on the beachside. A cheeky iced rosé was had too!
Best wishes all, XxCelia
