LIVE: Two words in Met Éireann weather forecast have us dreaming of sun blast
Met Éireann has given some hope of an upturn in Ireland's weather fortunes as we head into April with two magic words in the forecast for next week.
While the national forecaster is forecasting a number of days of unsettled weather towards the end of this week and into the weekend, the word "high pressure" feature in the outlook for next week.
In their forecast for Thursday, Met Éireann says: "Mostly cloudy and turning breezy. Outbreaks of light rain and drizzle in the morning with more persistent rain developing in the west and northwest in the early afternoon, gradually extending southeastwards through the rest of the day. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, coolest in the northwest. Moderate to fresh southwest winds will develop, strong at times for Atlantic coasts.
"Rain over the southeastern half of the country will continue to clear away as clear spells and scattered showers follow from the northwest. Some of the showers could be heavy with hail. Moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong for Atlantic coasts, will veer west with the clearance. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees."
The Friday forecast reads: "Cool and breezy with sunny spells and widespread showers, some heavy with a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. The showers will ease and become isolated through the evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in fresh and gusty west to northwest winds, strong for Atlantic coasts, but easing later.

"Clear spells and isolated showers at first [on Friday night], mainly near Atlantic coasts. The showers will die away through the night and cloud will slowly build from the west. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees in mostly light west to southwest winds.
"Largely dry at first [on Saturday] with some bright or sunny spells. Cloud will continue to build from the west bringing outbreaks of light rain and drizzle for a time. Clearer skies and drier conditions will start to move in from the west later. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest to west winds. A mix of cloud and clear spells overnight with a few light showers. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in mostly moderate westerly winds.
"A mix of cloud and sunny spells with well scattered light showers [on Sunday]. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest winds."
As music to the ears of most Irish people, Met Éireann's outlook for early next week says: "Current indication suggest high pressure will dominate for early next week bringing a good deal of dry weather. Highest temperatures generally of 12 to 15 degrees."
