THE COUNCIL has issued an urgent warning to motorists as snowfall causes road conditions in Limerick to deteriorate rapidly, making travel increasingly hazardous.
In a social media post at 9pm this Saturday, night Limerick City and Council warned that conditions are "deteriorating rapidly on N21 from Barna to Devon Cross" in West Limerick. They pointed out that ploughing and the treating of the road is taking place.
In an update at 9.21pm they confirmed that the N21 from Old Barna to Templeglantine "is currently impassable due to its elevation and snow accumulations. Vehicles are getting stuck."

With additional crews deployed to the area, the road was cleared at around 9.30pm. There are two tractor ploughs on duty for the night on this stretch of the N21. But, given the weather situation, motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution.

Gritters have also been deployed on the N20 and on the roads leading from Kilfinane to Kilmallock, and Bruff to Croom. Roads in the city centre, meanwhile, are also being treated.
Members of the public are being urged to report issues of note to 061 417833.
