ALERT: 'Don't walk on lakes that look frozen,' says weatherman as warning is issued for Limerick

MET Éireann has issued another status yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Limerick as the cold snap looks set to continue.

In the latest warning, which comes into effect across the country at 5pm this Thursday, the forecaster says it will be very cold overnight and on Friday morning.

Severe frost and icy stretches are being forecast for the whole country and motorists are being warned to be extra vigilant on roads. The cold weather could also impact vulnerable people and animals.

Temperatures have plunged all over Ireland with Thomastown in Kilkenny recording a chilling -8.6c this morning.

Carlow weather man Alan O'Reilly has also warned the public who are thinking about walking on any frozen lakes to refrain from doing so, saying the ice is nowhere near thick enough to withstand the pressure.

The latest Met Éireann warning is valid from 5pm this Thursday 18 until 11am on Friday.
