AUGUST Craft Month, a month-long celebration of local craft across the island of Ireland, launches in Limerick this weekend.

Led by Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) and Craft NI, the annual celebration is part of an island-wide summer programme.

People can enjoy creative craft experiences on their doorstep, or hit the road on a craft inspired adventure or staycation.

The programme provides opportunities to experience, participate in, support, buy and learn about the local craft sector.

The Glass Society of Ireland will be having a members pop-up studio style exhibition, ‘A Catalyst for Exploring Glass and the Written Word’, in Spacecraft Artists’ Studio on Mungret Street, Limerick city.

This free event will take place this Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4 from 4:30-6pm.

On Saturday, Mary Madec will be hosting The Written Word workshop. Participating glass artists and writers will be asked to bring a piece of work with them for the duration of the event. These will be displayed in the space along with works in progress from the workshop.

The day will result in a studio style pop up show open to members of the public to enjoy food and an open mic session and a Live Collaborative Flameworking Demonstration by Lindsay LeBlanc (LooLooGlass).

On each Saturday throughout August, BY DESIGN – A Local Story makers will be doing a ‘Demo in Our Window’ in Castletroy Town Centre from 1-3:30pm.

The general public is welcome to “Come visit, watch the makers create, have a chat, ask some questions and maybe even join in”. The event is free to attend and open to all.

Friends of Lace Limerick in collaboration with People’s Museum Limerick are organising a ‘Bring Out Your Lace’ event on Saturday, August 24, where you can bring in your own items of lace to be assessed, catalogued and photographed.

The group will share useful advice about lace preservation and storage. Friends of Lace will also organise a pop-up exhibition with pieces from its members’ personal collections.

The event, on from 10:30am to 3:30pm in 16 Roches Street, is free to attend and booking is not required.
