The Treaty United Women's side are enjoying a positive season to date under the management of Sean Russell.

Their latest result, a 1-1 draw with league leaders Athlone Town, signified just how far the Shannonsiders have come this season.

That result leaves Treaty in fifth place in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division table on 22 points after 14 rounds of games.

Sean Russell's side have already eclipsed last season's total points tally with eight games left to play.

Katie Lawlee, who was instrumental in her side's draw with Athlone last Wednesday night, netting her side's solitary goal, says the team is in a good place as they hit the half-way mark of their league campaign.

“With the league, you can only take it every week as it comes, you have to take each fixture as it comes, you can't look too far ahead,” Katie Lawlee said.

“We've definitely gotten a few results where people have been surprised and that's something that we want to keep doing, we want to keep surprising people, we want to show people what we can do.”

The Hazelwood College student says the team will also be looking to have a positive run in this year's Women's FAI Cup.  Treaty face Dublin side DLR Waves in the quarter-final on Saturday, August 16.

The sides meet a week earlier, August 9, in the league, an element that will make the FAI Cup tie that little bit more intriguing.

“In terms of the FAI Cup, we want to see how far we can go in that,” she said.

“We have DLR above in Dublin next month and hopefully we can get a result there and keep kicking on for the rest of the season,” she added.

Lawlee says that a mixture of youth and entertaining football has made Treaty a topic of discussion this season.

“It's definitely something that people keep saying about us when they come to watch us play, we're an entertaining team to watch but we're also a really young team as well,” she said.

“We're young but we're experienced at the same time. It's not our first season together, a lot of us have played with each other before and even the new girls that have come in this season, we've all gelled really well together.”

Lawlee says it's all about building on what has already been a positive season for the Shannonsiders, and bringing that momentum into next season.

“It's all about kicking on now and to keep it going for the rest of the season and you never know what that can bring."

“It's also about bringing that into next season then as well,” Lawlee concluded.
