TREATY United’s four-match winless streak in the SSE Airtricity League First Division ended with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Cobh Ramblers at the Markets Field on Friday night.
Mark Byrne’s late strike proved decisive as Treaty punished the visitors for their inaccuracy. Cobh created more meaningful chances, but Treaty were more clinical when it mattered.
The Munster derby win sees Treaty United sit in fourth-placed in the First Division table, ahead of fifth-placed UCD on goal difference.

Cobh then threatened to score on 43 minutes. Rhys Gourdie and Barry Coffey combined to set up Griffin who’s volleyed effort missed the target completely.
A marvellous save by home 'keeper Corey Chambers maintained parity on the stroke of half-time. Niall O’Keefe collected Shane Griffin’s corner kick and his volleyed effort was repelled by the Treaty shot stopper.
Treaty took the lead five minutes into the second half as Connor Wilson bagged his first goal of the season.
The midfielder scored with a terrific first-time effort after collecting Colin Conroy’s perfectly weighted cross inside the box.
Cian Murphy tried to level the game on 56 minutes but saw his shot deflected out for a corner kick by Robbie Lynch. Matthew Whelan headed Griffin’s delivery over the crossbar.
Cobh restored parity 60 seconds later on 57 minutes. Cian Murphy collected a long ball and calmly fired low to the net beyond the onrushing Corey Chambers.

Treaty almost restored parity on 59 minutes; Evan O’Connor’s 20-yard shot was deflected out for a corner kick which the hosts couldn’t exploit.
Treaty could’ve fell behind on 74 minutes; Murphy’s glancing header went wide after connecting with Cian Baragry’s right-wing gross.
Cobh threatened to score again six minutes later. John O’Donovan teed up Whelan but the latter couldn’t direct his diving header on target.
Treaty snatched victory three minutes from time. Brian Cunningham already came on for his Treaty debut midway through the second half and teed up Mark Byrne who fired a smashing curling shot to the top corner of the net.
Joe Hanson could’ve embellished Treaty’s victory deep into injury time, however his 20-yard effort trickled wide.
Next up for Treaty United is a glamour home FAI Cup second round meeting with Premier Division Derry City at the Markets Field on Friday night next, 7.45pm.
