Having enjoyed a comfortable lead in the Premier Division title race for much of the season, reigning Champions, Abbeyfeale United were gradually reeled in by Broadford United and were eventually overtaken last Friday week when the Fealesiders dropped two points at home to Newcastle West.
Broadford now lead by two points and will be crowned Champions on Sunday if they collect six points in the final weekend of Premier league action.
It would represent a remarkable achievement by manager Jim Neenan and his charges who have won their last twelve league games, dating back to October 11.
However, it won’t be easy to complete the deal as Broadford have two tough games remaining, at home to Desmond Cup Finalists, Rathkeale, on Friday and away to Killeaney, where Abbeyfeale clinched the title last season, on Sunday.
To keep the pressure on Broadford, Abbeyfeale need to win their last two games, hosting relegated Shannonside FC on Friday and travelling to Newcastle West Rovers on Sunday.
