Early substitute Will Hugill fired Halifax to a 2-1 victory over Altrincham that boosted the Calderdale club to the fringes of the Enterprise National League play-off places.
Midfielder Hugill replaced Thierry Latty-Fairweather in a forced home change and the newcomer nearly scored in the 22nd minute when heading Angelo Cappello’s cross wide. Ten minutes before the break, Cody Johnson was denied by Luke Hutchinson.
Josh Hmami did poke home Fax’s opener four minutes after half-time but a rocket from Ollie Crankshaw, who had been set up by Eddy Jones, put out-of-form Alty back on level terms again in the 55th minute as they looked to snap a losing run.
However, former AFC Fylde man Hugill followed up on Will Harris’ spilled shot to score Halifax’s second – and his first for the Shaymen – not long after the hour mark.
